10k Wāhine Tech Talent programme
The Wāhine Tech Talent programme
The Wāhine Tech Talent programme is specifically designed for women in New Zealand who would like to further develop their skills in tech. Set over two weeks, the goal is to attract more women into STEM pathways.
The programme offers a range of courses to support wāhine, whether they’re in high school or the workplace. It aims to build and strengthen the digital workforce and support career development. In 2021 Microsoft research found that over 90% of women were not receiving training or assistance to gain and grow these crucial workplace skills.
Tech stats on women in tech
Only a quarter of the tech sector is female. This percentage reduces significantly when it comes to the number of women in senior roles and at the board level.
As the tech field is consistently growing, and digital jobs continue to emerge, there is a real need for more people with tech skills in the industry. For the tech sector to be sustainable, more women need to enter the tech sector.
